Weather Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain and thunderstorm advisory for the eastern hilly regions of Kollam district, directly impacting both the Kulathupuzha and Ayiranallur Estates.
Continuous, high-intensity rainfall accompanied by strong gusty winds is expected to persist over the next 48 to 72 hours. In light of these severe weather warnings, the management of Rehabilitation Plantations Ltd (RPL) has initiated emergency safety protocols to ensure the absolute security of our workforce, resident repatriate families, and the estate infrastructure. All field supervisors and division officers have been put on high alert.
Emergency Directives
- Tapping Suspended: All latex tapping operations on non-rain-guarded rubber trees are suspended immediately until further notice.
- Restricted Movement: Workers and children are strictly advised to avoid crossing streams and venturing near the Kallada River banks.
- Control Room: A 24/7 emergency control desk has been activated at the Kulathupuzha Garden Hospital for immediate medical or rescue assistance.
Operational Adjustments
While field operations face temporary disruptions, factory processing will continue using stored latex reserves. Field staff are instructed to secure all collected latex in weather-proof barrels and ensure that drainage trenches (edakayyala) across the steep gradients of the Ayiranallur estate are clear of debris to prevent soil erosion and waterlogging.
"Production targets can always be recovered, but human lives cannot. The safety of our laborers and their families is our foremost priority. We request full cooperation from all division residents in strictly following these safety guidelines during the heavy monsoon spell."
Chief Safety Officer, RPL
Preparedness in Labor Lines
The Engineering Wing has completed preliminary inspections of the staff quarters and labor lines to secure roofs and electrical lines. Essential supplies, including emergency rations and critical medicines, have been fully stocked at the estate dispensaries. Division supervisors will conduct daily evening rounds to assess the well-being of the residents until the weather advisory is officially lifted.
